About Stagg Plumbing

Based in Welwyn, Stagg Plumbing are a well established family-run business. Their engineers are all fully qualified, Gas Safe experts in all aspects of domestic plumbing, central heating and drainage. They have a large team working across Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire Cambridgeshire and North London.

The Project Brief

Having been a victim of some poor SEO advice and practices from a previous web agency, Stagg were in much need of some reliable, trust worthy advice and some care and attention to their SEO and website.

Their primary focus was to be well-established and highly ranked in the search engines for local searches around various plumbing, heating and drainage key phrases. Together with this they needed a website that mirrored their professionalism and their focus on customer care, as well as an optimised site that would work across any device. The website was created to offer high visual impact and offer various call to actions that would prompt users to make an enquiry.

Our Solution

We worked with a local SEO company to undertake keyword research and establish the local areas to target. We performed a content review and again worked with the SEO company to generate a series of unique location based pages, and perform all the copy writing across the entire website.

We were then challenged with making each page individual, so as to appear unique to the search engines. The approach we took was to build in modules, i.e not building each page within individual context, thus enabling us to build pages and apply changes across the site in a quick and timely fashion.

We created several design modules that could be easily manipulated and moved around the website and within different areas of the page. The modules we created included;

• Testimonial blocks.
  These were created as two separate design modules. One that would feature a large ‘happy customers’ image with the testimonials either positioned to the left or right depending on the structure of the image. The second version was designed to be integrated within the main page copy. We then developed these modules further to pick a random testimonial from a bank of testimonials and to also select a random image from a bank of images. The modules were also created to easily manage the number of testimonials that would be displayed.


• Coverage Section.
  This would feature a map and some unique content based on specific locations. Some would also be linked to specific location based landing pages.


• Which? Trusted Trader.
  A large advert block to promote the fact that Stagg are an accredited member of the Which? Trusted Traders. This featured a large logo for impact.


• Behind the page promotions.
  These were short icon based design modules that were hidden behind the content and revealed upon scrolling. This added a nice visual surprise to the user as they engaged with the page, whilst also promoting two random highlights from a bank of highlights. This was accompanied with a call to action telephone number.




Finally, we also modularised the contact items (telephone, email and contact button) meaning they could easily be included throughout the site, but also offering the benefit of easy updates if required.

The design also features a fixed header bar; this makes it easy for users to access the menu and telephone number, particularly from a mobile device, if they need to make urgent contact (i.e. if they have a burst pipe). We added a few animations to stimulate interest and engagement, particularly with the menu loading on smaller devices.
